Store operations templates

Copy-paste templates for the recurring written moments in a store: handovers, escalations, SOPs, purchase orders and post-peak reviews.

Each page contains the template itself, in full, on the page. Nothing is gated and nothing has to be requested. If a template is useful, making somebody trade an email address for it mostly filters out the people who would have used it.

They are all short on purpose. The commonest reason an operational template fails is length: a handover note that takes ten minutes does not get written at the end of a bad shift, and once it has been skipped twice it has stopped existing. Every template here is designed to be completed in about two minutes.

Take them and change them. A template that has been adapted to how your store actually works gets used, and one adopted verbatim from a website usually does not.

Daily and shift

Shift handover template

Five lines, two minutes, written at the end of every shift that hands over to another.

Process and decisions

Escalation template

Four fields, so the person receiving it can decide rather than reconstruct.

SOP template

Steps, decisions, exceptions, owner. Everything else is what stops people opening it.

Suppliers and stock

Purchase order template

Six fields, a reference number, and a rule about who is allowed to send it.

Goods-in checklist template

The twenty minutes on the loading bay that prevent a month of inventory nobody trusts.

Review and improvement

Post-peak retro template

Run it in the week after peak, while people still remember, and leave with one change rather than twelve.
